Poppin’ Poppin’ (woah!) Our Way Into Sagittarius Season

Welcome to Sagittarius season, dear ARMYs! We’re moving out of the shadowy, transitional realm of Scorpio and into the season of inspiration and restlessness. Much like our resident Sag Kim Seokjin, Sagittarius energy is quick-witted, adaptable, and optimistic. It moves more quickly than the other signs and urges us to push forward with a belief in the possibilities before us and a thirst for adventure and knowledge. Basically now is the time to be your biggest, baddest, most ridiculous self and trust that the world will respond in kind.

And Jin is indeed the quintessential Sagittarius - he’s curious, clever, and quick to make a joke, and although he insists that he’s something of a homebody, he’s always displayed an eagerness for new experiences and is certain to make friends wherever he goes, whether with fellow hikers on a mountain in Hawaii, a welcoming bar-owner in Malta, or Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

When I was brushing up on my astrology knowledge for this post, BTS Tarot Project’s resident expert Kirstin Wu explained that Sagittarius has a burning desire to connect with others through commonalities and shared beliefs. This can be seen again and again not just through Jin’s interactions with newcomers but also in the wisdom he imparts to the members and ARMY about his own outlook on life. We often see him advising Namjoon to loosen up and using their different philosophies as a way to inspire them both to live more fully, perhaps most notably in their iconic sunset conversation in Hawaii.

(Fun fact - not only is Mr. WWH a Sagittarius Sun, but if you did a chart for BTS the band itself would be a Sag Rising! Fitting, no?)

Kristin also gave this insightful breakdown of just what this year’s particular transit will entail:

“This year’s Sun in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter in Saturn’s sign of Aquarius. Compared to last year when it was transiting Capricorn, Jupiter is better resourced and will therefore lend a different tone to this Sagittarius season. In Aquarius, the planet of beneficence and expansion is able to work with Saturn’s construction of long-term structures and containers to give shape to its inspired ideas. Jupiter’s desire for cohesiveness, intellectual exploration, wisdom-seeking and improvement can be channeled into communication, technological building, saying no to misaligned ideas and building networks for the kinds of knowledge we want to embrace. What exactly that looks like across different aspects and planes of society will vary, of course. Nevertheless, the feeling of this Sagittarius season will be different to last year’s, when the focus was more on building for survival and necessary strategies in the midst of crisis.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m both excited and terrified for what lies ahead. With that in mind, I’ve whipped up a little spread to help us all navigate the energies facing us:

There’s certainly a lot to process here, so I’ve gone ahead and started us all off with a reading on the challenges we are all collectively facing at this moment. I won’t lie, it’s a little heavy. But if there’s one thing ARMY excels at, it’s coming together and facing difficult challenges as a community.

Reading done with The Crow Tarot by MJ Cullinane

  1. Ten of Wands Reversed - Collectively, we are outgrowing the belief that we must either carry the weight of the entire world on our shoulders or accept our own impotence and surrender to helplessness. The truth is that big changes happen when individuals take responsibility for small actions and little slices of a greater vision for the world. We don’t have to do everything to make an impact. We just need to be willing to do something. Let go of anything that is not in your wheelhouse and prepare to show up where it really matters.

  2. Ace of Cups Reversed - It may seem counterintuitive to have the energy of the reversed Ace in the position of “new projects and goals”; after all, reversals tend to indicate some sort of blockage or obstacle, and a reversed Ace often speaks of unfinished business. But hear me out. We are all carrying a lot of pain, joy, anger, and every emotion under the sun from past experiences, both in our personal lives and from generations past. An abundance of emotional baggage. And it is tempting when looking toward progress to want to leave all of that in the past and move forward with a clean slate. But we cannot truly progress if we don’t know what we’re dealing with. It will be painful, it will be difficult, it will be uncomfortable, but it’s time to dredge up the past and get honest about how deep these wounds go and what must be done to heal them.

  3. Seven of Wands Reversed - Again, this feels a bit counterintuitive. The Seven of Wands speaks of seizing hold of your vision and fighting for what you believe to be true against all odds. Who doesn’t find that inspiring? But right now what we’re being called to do is listen. To think before we act and to carefully consider whether action is the right course at all. Sometimes we are so busy fighting for what we think we want that we miss the fact that the universe is trying to nudge us in a completely different direction. Or the fact that all our energy isn’t actually helping the people and the issues we intended. Right now, the strongest inspiration will be found in stillness, in taking a pause to ensure that we are acting as efficiently as possible when the time comes.

  4. Three of Swords Reversed - I’m sure many of us have bonded with others over shared pain or anger at many points in our lives - but what if we bonded over shared healing? Commiserating over past hurt can be cathartic and lead to strong bonds of trust, but if we don’t progress beyond that point our relationships become rather stunted. Whether we’re talking about personal recovery or a shared vision for collective societal healing, the fact remains that we’ll find the strongest commitment if we’re able to support one another throughout this at times painful process of recovery and reconciliation.

  5. Death - Oh Death, my old friend. This card pretty much draws a bold line under the messages of the cards before it. It’s time to let go of anything that has overstayed its welcome, no longer serves its purpose, or was rotten to begin with. Letting the old ways die is scary at times, but it fertilizes the metaphorical soil and clears space for something new and infinitely more fulfilling to grow in its place. By embracing the changes to come and helping lay to rest anything that is not supporting us in living a healthy, happy, sustainable life, we can help plant the seeds for a new era of growth and prosperity. Right now it’s difficult to even imagine what that would look like, and that’s okay. We are all dealing with so very much right now. Focus on the process of letting go; the evolution will follow in its own time.
